With deep roots in the Jemez Mountains, I finally came back home after serving in the military and spending time overseas, including in the Middle East and Afghanistan. Sales of products support providing free service dogs to disabled veterans and first responders.
I use two different clay bodies in my work. Both clay bodies are made right here in New Mexico at New Mexico Clay. My red clay, Sandia Red, and the porcelain clay are named after our very own, and mentor to me, Shirley Powell's Columbine studio in San Ysidro. I often played in the mud as a child and finally took a class as an adult, thus beginning a journey into making functional, and sometimes not so functional, art. For me, clay is a way to turn the world off and just be in the moment. One of my favorite things is when a new bag of clay is opened; it smells just like the rain!
